DOCUMENT TYPES

What each document answers.

Names vary by region and supplier. The purchase order should describe the required content, not rely on an abbreviation alone.
CoC

Certificate of Conformance

Confirms the supplied item conforms to the stated order or specification. It may not include measured chemistry or mechanical results.

MTR / MTC

Material Test Report

Links a material heat or lot to reported chemical and mechanical test results under a named material standard.

EN 10204 3.1

Inspection certificate 3.1

Provides specific inspection results validated by the manufacturer’s authorized inspection representative independent of manufacturing.

CoA

Certificate of Analysis

Reports analysis for a batch or lot; common for polymers, chemicals, coatings and some raw materials.

TRACEABILITY CHAIN

Keep the link from raw stock to shipped part.

    Supplier and material specification agreed before purchase.

  2. 02Heat or lot ID

    Raw stock identification recorded on receipt and documents.

  3. 03Job traveler

    Material identity carried through cutting, machining and outside processing.

  4. 04Shipment record

    Part, lot and requested certificates packaged as one release record.

RFQ CHECKLIST

State these six items.

Request documentation before ordering. Reconstructing traceability after production may be impossible.
